About me

My family and I live in a beautiful small town in southern Wisconsin. We have lived in this house for a handful of months, and we are currently "fixing the place up." I also spend a fair amount of time making my indoor and outdoor turtle enclosures as naturalistic as possible, much to my husband's concern. (I keep taking up more and more of the yard.) Together, we have two boys who are 7 and 5 years old. We share our home with two dogs, two cats, fish, and an assortment of turtles and tortoises.

I became interested in turtles as a kid, and had a pet snapping turtle named E.T. (like the extra-terrestrial) while growing up in Buffalo Grove, IL. During the summer just before my senior year in high school, my family moved to the famous basketball town of Hebron, IL. I met my later-to-be husband there, and and three years after I graduated high school, we got married. I have worked in a library, a video rental and camera store, for a veterinarian, at Wal-Mart, as a CNA (certified nurses' aide), a machine operator, assistant supervisor, and am now a registered nurse at the local hospital. I graduated from Gateway Technical College in December of 2004 with an Associate's Degree of Nursing. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's Degree of Nursing at The University of Phoenix Online, and will graduate in 2007.

I have been caring for turtles and tortoises much of my adult life, and at one point considered pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine or herpetology. However, nursing people was a better fit for me. People are the only creatures I love more than turtles and tortoises!

I am not an expert on turtles and tortoises. I do not give veterinary or medical advice. I am an experienced turtle and tortoise keeper with a lot of common sense. Feel free to ask any question! Remember, there are no dumb questions.

Snack Time!

This is Essie

She was the first tortoise I got. Hereshe is about a year old. I've had her for several years now. Sulcata are an African species of tortoise. They can be raised in the Midwest, however it is expensive and can be challenging to met their daily needs.
